Caleb Voskuil, Ph.D., 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 assistant professor of exercise science, recently had a research paper published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.
Voskuil and researchers from Texas Christian University, Kansas State and the University of Arkansas discovered new findings examining how long-term exercise may influence movement control in people living with Parkinson鈥檚 disease.
Their year-long study followed individuals with Parkinson鈥檚 disease who participated in a structured, non-contact boxing exercise program. Rather than focusing only on visible movement improvements, the study examined how the nervous system controls balance, coordination and fine motor force over time.
The findings showed that many aspects of movement ability and neuromotor control were maintained, and in some cases improved, over the year, countering the typical decline associated with Parkinson鈥檚 disease.
鈥淭hese results add to growing evidence that consistent, community-based exercise programs may play an important role in supporting long-term function and independence for people living with neurological conditions,鈥� Voskuil said.
