Alumna author brings book to Wisconsin students
Juleya (Tucker) Woodson 鈥13 partnered with two other 糖心vlog传媒 grads for a mini-Wisconsin book tour this fall to share her children鈥檚 book, 鈥淚 Hope They Understand.鈥
She spoke at Appleton West High School and Johnston Elementary as part of a Diversity Day Series created by 2008 graduate Kempton Freeman, cultural advisor for the Appleton (Wis.) Area School District.
Woodson talked to the high school students on the topics of racial identity and acceptance, and she read her book to the elementary students.
She also visited Howards Grove, Wis., and spoke with elementary and middle school students, a visit planned by Shawn (Brower) Holzman 鈥94, a fifth grade teacher in Howards Grove.
Motivated in part by her work as Family Support Specialist with the Childcare Network of Evanston and the lack of diversity in children鈥檚 literature, Woodson published 鈥淚 Hope They Understand鈥 earlier this year. The book is designed to create meaningful and exciting conversations with children about racial and cultural differences by celebrating those dissimilarities.
