2021 grad holds Marine officer commissioning ceremony at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½

Nicole Barth ’21 received her commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps in a ceremony held at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ on Saturday.

Barth graduated from ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ in May with a master of science in leadership and organizational development, and she said several of her courses were instrumental in preparing her for her commission.

Family and friends gathered for a commissioning ceremony held in front of Old Main Hall, followed by a dinner in the Young Family Campus Center catered by ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Dining Services.

Nicole’s brother, Aaron, a 2018 ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ graduate, helped pin her Second Lieutenant bars on her uniform as part of the ceremony. Her father, Pete, is head cross country and track and field coach at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½.

Up next for Barth is six months basic officer course training in Quantico, Va., where she will learn infantry skills to be a platoon commander and train and evaluate her academic, leadership and military skills.
